TV REVIEW: Daybreak worth living again

Aaron Peck

“Lost” is on hiatus for the next thirteen weeks. So, Wednesday night ABC premiered “Day Break”, starring Taye Diggs of “Equilibrium” fame. So, what is “Day Break?” Well, if you take “The Fugitive,” and mix it together with “Groundhog Day.” Add a dash of “Die Hard,” and you’ve got “Day Break.”

Taye Diggs, plays Detective Brett Hopper. Hopper is being framed for murder. By whom? We don’t know. Why? We don’t know. All we know is that Hopper wakes up everyday at the same time, and it’s the same day. He’s the only one that remembers the day before, which is actually the same day; yeah it’s all very confusing.

Every day Hopper has to make choices. His choices have consequences on what happens to the people around him. Choice and consequence seem to be the overall premise of the show. How in the world will he be able to make everything right? If he does make it right will the day ever actually end?

Every time I see a show like this, one that plays with time, I always inevitably think about what I would do if I were in the same situation. The only thing I can ever come up with is how I could use this to help me in some sort of gambling scheme.

But, I was impressed. I really liked “Day Break.” It’s fun. Which is the same reason a movie like “Die Hard,” is great, because it’s just fun. “Day Break,” has a great cast of supporting actors such as Adam Baldwin (“Serenity”) and Mitch Pileggi (“X-Files”).

“Day Break,” is also promising that by the end of the season every secret will be revealed. Obviously playing for the fans of “Lost” that are starting to wonder if they’ll ever figure out what’s going on.

I for one will be following this show all the way to the end, if not just because I need a show to fill my Wednesday night viewing hole that “Lost” left. Don’t get me wrong though, “Day Break” is good, it’s intense, and it’s just pure TV-watching fun.

“Day Break” is on ABC Wednesday nights at 8 P.M.
