Two men charged with sex crimes

Two men were charged Monday and Tuesday in a Logan court for their alleged involvement in two unrelated sexual crimes.

A River Heights physician was charged with two felony counts of forcible sexual abuse Tuesday in 1st District Court.

Raymond L. Bedell, 45, was charged with allegedly sexually abusing two female patients – one in May 2004 and one in June 2004 – according to court documents.

Both patients were 14 years of age or older, according to the charges.

If convicted, the two second-degree felony charges could land Bedell up to $20,000 in fines and up to 30 years in prison.

A 25-year-old Provo man was charged with four first-degree felony counts of sodomy on a child Monday also in 1st District Court.

According to police reports, the Logan City Police Department received a complaint in September that a 24-year-old male allegedly sexually assaulted a 9-year-old boy in a Logan motel.

Logan officers made contact with Joseph Oates on Sept. 30 at his residence in Provo, according to reports. Oates was interviewed and subsequently arrested and booked into the Cache County Jail, according to reports.

Oates’ preliminary hearing is set for Oct. 19. If convicted, he could face up to $40,000 in fines and life in prison.
