Two USU basketball players suspended for violation of rules
Two members of the Utah State basketball team have been suspended indefinitely by head coach Stew Morrill for an undisclosed violation of team rules.
Senior forward Jason Williams and shooting guard Marques Crane, a transfer from Saddleback Junior College in California, have been indefinitely suspended and may be dismissed from the team entirely, Morrill said.
Both players were vying for starting positions on the team when the season opens in November.
Williams started 27 of 29 games for the Aggies last season, averaging almost seven points and two rebounds a game.
Crane sat last season after earning Most Valuable Player honors in the Orange Empire Conference during the 2002-03 season as a sophomore.
Both Williams and Crane faced disciplinary actions last May for citations issued at on off-campus party.
Williams pleaded guilty April 20 for minor consumption of alchohol and interfering with a police officer.
He was fined $1,015 and sentenced to community service and 12 months probation.
Former Aggie basketball players Cardell Butler and Quenton Harvey also received citations at the party April 10.
Players and coaches were unavailable for comment on the issue Sunday.
