UDOT Begins Construction on Valley View Highway (S.R. 30) Passing Lane Project

OGDEN – The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) plans to begin construction Monday, August 6 on a project that will add passing lanes on the Valley View Highway (S.R. 30) between S.R. 23 in Cache County and S.R. 38 in Box Elder County. Also included in the project is construction of a new park-n-ride lot just west of the S.R. 30/S.R. 23 junction in Cache County.

Initial construction activities involve shoulder work with minimal traffic impacts expected. Proposed traffic control plans are currently under review by UDOT and the contractor. Further information will be released as it becomes available.

A full sixty day closure of S.R. 30 is planned in spring 2008. UDOT solicited public feedback earlier this year about the closure and determined that it will help expedite project completion and minimize overall motorist impacts.

The project is designed to alleviate congestion and increase safety on the busy route. “This area presents a significant bottleneck to motorists during peak commute hours,” said UDOT Project Manager, Brad Humphreys. “The new passing lanes will improve safety by giving motorists alternatives to safely pass slow moving vehicles.”

Staker & Parson Companies has been awarded the $11 million construction contract. Project completion is expected by fall 2008. As the project progresses, updated information will be available on the project hotline (801-971-0302) and website: www.udot.utah.gov/SR30passinglanes .
