UPR SATURDAY CONCERT SERIES FEATURES KATE MACLEOD AND THE PANCAKES

One of Utah Public Radio’s locally-originated programs – “Fresh Folk” – takes a break this week. In its place, listeners will hear highlights from a   performance by Salt Lake City-based Kate MacLeod and the Pancakes.

The hour-long concert will be heard Saturday, July 16, at 8 p.m. It was recorded Jan. 15, 2005, at the Eccles Conference Center auditorium on the Utah State

University campus. That concert coincided with the release of Kate and the Pancakes newest CD, “Breakfast.”

MacLeod was named among the “Ten Acts to Watch” by the Music Hound Folk. Essential Album Guide said her first two CDs, released in 1995 and 1997, were rated four on a scale of five. Her musical background includes experience in classical, traditional American, bluegrass and Celtic music.

In the four-piece band, MacLeod plays lead hollow body electric guitar in addition to acoustic guitar, fiddle and harmonica. The band includes Mark Hazel on vocals and second guitar, Barry Carter on bass guitar and Cliff Smith on percussion.

This concert is part of a continuing collaboration between Utah Public Radio and the Bridger Folk Music Society, presenting broadcasts of concerts for those unable to attend the events.

Bridger Folk Music Society is a Logan-based non-profit organization supporting folk music in its many forms. Utah Public Radio collaborates with the all- volunteer organization to showcase local, national and international artists who perform in its annual concert series.

In northern Utah, Utah Public Radio programs are heard on KUSU FM (89.5) and KUSR (91.5 FM).
