USU brothers capture handball national championship
The Utah State University handball team competed in Springfield, Mo. during spring break and came out victorious as national champions.
Brothers Jarod and Logan Jensen competed in both the singles and doubles events. Jarod took the national champion title in his bracket, while Logan took second in his. Together, the duo came together and took first in the nation in the doubles bracket.
“Since he was so good, I was like, ‘hey we should go to Nationals,’ and so we went last year,” Logan said. “This year we decided to it again and take it more seriously.”
Jarod was able to perform at a high level and take the title even while sustaining a leg injury.
“It was probably from playing too much,” Jarod said. “I couldn’t walk very well and couldn’t move around.”
The Jensen brothers credited their wins to Herm Olsen, the handball coach and instructor at Utah State.
“The best part is the way it makes Herm feel, honestly, at least for me,” Jarod said. “We play with a bunch of older guys, and it’s just the way it makes them feel.”
“They helped us out a lot, with paying for our tickets and staying there,” Logan added. “So when we go and win our brackets it’s nice to see their money wasn’t in vain.”
