USU collecting donations for Navajo Nations flood relief
Severe rainfall over the weekend caused widespread flooding across the Navajo Nation, damaging homes and infrastructure. Utah State University’s Logan campus and other locations across the state are collecting donations for affected families.
An evacuation order posted on the San Juan County Facebook page Oct. 25 instructed residents to “evacuate now.” Although the order has since been lifted, families continue to deal with the damage.
USU Heritage and Culture and Student Success are collecting essential items, including food, water, hygiene products and warm clothing, in TSC Room 326 until 5 p.m. Oct. 29. Once the collection closes, donations will be delivered to a NavajoStrong facility. The nonprofit organization is collecting donations for flood victims in the area.
Faustine Saganey, program coordinator for USU Heritage and Culture, said the organization is working closely with NavajoStrong and students whose homes and families have been affected by the flooding.
