USU Facts and Figures site full of facts about university
Quick. Exactly how many students are enrolled at Utah State University?
If you couldn’t find the answer as quick as you thought, now it should be a snap.
An information Web site about USU is up and running, said Craig Peterson, the director of analysis, assessment and accreditation.
“It offers a one-stop source of basic facts and figures about Utah State University,” Peterson, an economics professor, said.
It is designed as a place where people can go to find most of the factual information about USU.
Roy Sleight, a programmer analyst for the office of analysis, assessment and accreditation, developed the site’s technical programing under Peterson. Sleight said the site is “basically an attempt to replace what used to be a fact book,” and that the site contains information about everything.
Peterson said the site is for anyone who wants to learn more about USU. The Web pages are easy to access and the site has an organizational chart.
It’s easy to access the site from USU’s home page. First, click on the “About Utah State” icon; then click on the “Facts and Figures” link. To go straight to the Web site, its address is http://planning.usu.edu/
analysis/.
The site’s main purpose is to bring all USU data together in a current and easily accessible setting, Peterson said.
Some of the information on the Web site is very helpful for USU students. One part of the site is an organization chart that allows students to get on any college or department Web sites. Peterson said the site shows students and prospective students teacher evaluations results. Those results can help a student to better choose professors based on what other students’ analysis of their professors’ teaching skills.
Freshman Marci Wilson, who’s majoring in deaf education, said she had never heard of the site, but hopes to use it to find out information about professors.
Peterson said the site also contains USU at a glance, which is a selection directed toward prospective students. The facts on the page vary from discussing USU’s enrollment size, tuition prices and the various colleges inside the university. The site gives information about USU’s establishment, employees, university revenues, research expenditures, degrees and student expenses.
“It’s always updating,” Sleight said. “It’s a dynamic Web site.”
Sleight said the site contains comparative data. On the site, surveys are given to a variety of people connected to USU including recent and older alumni to find out what they thought of their USU experience. To compare USU faculty with those from other universities, surveys are administered to discover attitudes about teaching.
The intended affect of the site is to be an easy source for people to have access to various information about USU, Peterson said. The effectiveness of this site is a great help to information seekers. It is a good development for the university to help people make decisions based on facts about USU.
“The main goal was to be able to bring all of the data about the university together and to make it very easy to access, and to keep it current,” Peterson said.
