The men’s golf team saved the best for last, but it wasn’t enough. Despite the good finish the team failed to win at the 17-team Braveheart Classic in California.

The Utah State men’s golf team finished up a two day tournament Tuesday, placing 14th in the tournament despite shooting a team best 315 on the last round. The tournament was won by Jacksonville, who was followed up by UCLA. In third place was Utah, followed by Southern Utah and Portland.

In the individual matches, Jacksonville players took the top three spots, shooting a 220, 223, and 224. Behind them were two players from UCLA, shooting 226 and 227.

Devin Daniels had the best game for the Aggies, tying for 36th in the individual rankings. For his three rounds Daniels shot 79, 78, and an 80 on the final round, for a total of 237. With the 36th place finish, Daniels records the best finish of the year so far. Earlier this year he tied for 37th a couple of times.

Jeremy Pack helped lead the charge on the final day shooting a 76. Jake Blair shot a 78, and Preston Otte shot an 81. Brandon Broadhead, the fifth player for the Aggies, finished 91st for the tournament.

The Aggies hope to build on the final round improvement as they continue their season at the end of this month. The Aggies will return to California later this month for their next outing. They will be playing in the Cuesta Vista Intercollegiate at Arroyo Grande, California, March 29-30.
