USU Gymnastics wins Mountain Rim Championships

BOISE — For the first time in program history, No. 25 Utah State is Mountain Rim Gymnastics Conference Champions. They scored a season-high 197.025 to blow past No. 21 BYU, No. 24 Boise State and Southern Utah. 

Three Aggies topped the leaderboard in different categories. In the all-around, junior Rebecca Wells put up a 39.400. Freshman Brie Clark tied her career-high 9.950 in the floor exercise. On the balance beam, senior Carley Bayles had a 9.925. As a group, Utah State led the competition on the balance beam and in the floor exercise. 

The title is Utah State’s sixth conference championship in gymnastics. It is the first one since the Aggies won the Western Gymnastics Conference in 2005. 

Tonight’s score will bump up Utah State’s national qualifying score for the NCAA Women’s Gymnastics Championships. With this score and their performance on the season, the Aggies are nearly guaranteed a spot in the regionals which take place March 30 through April 2. They will find out about their competition and where their meet will be during the national selection show on March 22.
