USU head coach Jerry Finkbeiner agrees to contract extension

Utah State Women’s Basketball head coach Jerry Finkbeiner has agreed in principle to a three-year contract extension, as announced by the athletic department on Monday. The extension would keep Finkbeiner at the helm of the program through the 2019-20 season.

“Under Jerry’s leadership our program is trending up in the Mountain West and they have shown they can compete with any team in our league,” said USU athletics director John Hartwell. “I look forward to seeing what they can accomplish this postseason and in the future.”

Finkbeiner has posted a record of 71-83 in his first five seasons with Utah State, including a 16-13 mark this year en route to the sixth place finish in the Mountain West Conference. Those 16 wins represent the fifth-most in a single season in Aggie women’s basketball history.

“In each of the last three years, we have continued to move up in the Mountain West standings over the previous year’s finish. I look forward to the opportunity to continue this trajectory in the years to come as the Utah State women’s basketball coach,” Finkbeiner said. “I appreciate John Hartwell and his confidence in me and our staff as we pursue our team’s goal to win a Mountain West title.”

For his career, Finkbeiner has amassed a record of 545-325 overall mark in 28 years as a head coach of Utah State, Oral Roberts, and Southern Nazarene.

Finkbeiner and the Aggies will next take the court on Tuesday night at 9:30 MST in the quarterfinals of the Mountain West Conference tournament versus UNLV.
