USU Inclusion Center hosts series of events for Fat Acceptance Fridays

The Utah State University Inclusion Center is hosting weekly events called Fat Acceptance Fridays to celebrate fat bodies. Since Feb. 26, the Inclusion Center has hosted a variety of events such as fat snowshoeing and fat aerobics.

According to the Inclusion Center, the purpose of these events is to “change the way we use the word fat and dismantle the stigma we’ve associated with it.”

The events will continue every Friday until April 9.

Every event you attend puts you into a drawing to win the chance to be a body positivity model for a day for Moonbeam Apparel, a boutique in North Logan. There is also a drawing for one of four $25 gift cards to the clothing store.

Here are the events coming up:

March 19: Fat Eating

To discourage unhealthy diet culture, a dietician will be teaching about mindful eating on Zoom at 4 p.m.

March 26: Fat Yoga

The Inclusion Center will be hosting body positive yoga at the Health, Physical Education, and Recreation Building, or HPER, at 4 p.m. for all sizes and abilities. Students can also participate virtually over Zoom.

April 2: Fat Love

This event features a talking circle with the USU Inclusion Center, the Sexual Assault and Anti-Violence Information Office and Counseling and Psychological Services to discuss navigating relationships while fat. This discussion will take place over Zoom at 4 p.m.

April 9: Fat Virtual Fashion Show

Submit body positive pictures to the USU Inclusion Center’s Instagram (@usu_inclusion) to participate in this virtual fashion show. The winners of the drawings will be announced over Instagram during this event.

Zoom links for each of these events can be found on the USU Inclusion Center’s website.
