USU is adding several three-day weekends to Spring 2021

Utah State University is scheduling several three-day weekends during the spring 2021 semester to make up for the loss of a spring break due to COVID-19, public information officer Emilie Wheeler said.

The newly scheduled three-day weekends will take place Friday, March 12 and Friday, April 9.

The normal President’s Day extended weekend on Feb. 15 will also be another three-day weekend.

Wheeler said the idea behind the three-day weekends is to help students and faculty take needed breaks throughout the semester to support proper mental health.

USU’s faculty senate supports three-day weekends over one big spring break because they hope only one extra vacation day will limit extensive travel, Wheeler said.

Wheeler said she hasn’t heard student feedback on the idea, though the faculty senate gave overwhelming support. Some faculty will still be required to work on the designated days off, but all students will be given the day to recuperate.

Dates and more information can be found on USU’s calendar page. The spring semester is set to start on Jan.19, the day after Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
