USU MBB: Funk heads to Summer League
LOGAN, Utah – Taylor Funk went undrafted last week, but he isn’t headed home. The former USU forward will join the Miami Heat 2023 Summer League, hoping for a two-way contract.
In his single season with the Aggies, Funk started in 34 games, was named to the Mountain West All-Tournament team and was a USBWA All-District VIII selection. His talent didn’t go unnoticed on the court as he lead the team to an NCAA tournament berth. He averaged 13.4 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game, and he shot 45.1% (165 of 366) from the field, 37% (81 of 219) from deep and 90% (45 of 50) at the free throw line.
Funk finished at the top of the Mountain West Conference in several categories, including three-pointers made per game (3rd, 2.38), defensive rebounds per game (8th, 4.29), rebounds per game (14th, 5.53) and scoring (17th, 13.41). He holds a spot on two USU single-season record lists, including 3-pointers attempted (219) and 3-pointers made (81).
Before coming to play for the Aggies, Funk played for Saint Joseph’s, where he scored 1,439 career points in 120 games. He averaged 12 points per game, while shooting 42% (419 of 1,170) from the floor, 35.3% (277 of 785) from behind the three-point line and 81.4% (180 of 221) at the free throw line.
The Summer League will be held July 7-17 in Las Vegas.
