USU men’s basketball adds freshman guard Tauriawn Knight
New Utah State head basketball coach Craig Smith picked up his first commitment for the Aggies with the addition of 6-foot-1 point guard Tauriawn Knight, the program announced on Tuesday.
A graduate of Edmond Santa Fe High School in Edmond, Oklahoma, Knight averaged 19.2 points per game as a senior, finishing as the third-leading scorer in school history. He was named to the Oklahoma Super-5 team as one of the five-best prep players in the state by NewsOK.com, as well as earning second-team all-Oklahoma accolades from USA Today.
“Tauriawn is an ultra-competitive guard that can play both spots in the backcourt,” Smith said. “Tauriawn’s a winner. He plays with great pace and really understands how to make others around him better.”
In addition to his scoring, Knight averaged 3.8 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game in his final season on his way to all-Big City first team and all-state honors.
Knight led his team to an upset of the top-ranked high school in Class 6A en route to the state title game for only the third time in the school’s history.
Knight had previously committed to the University of South Dakota, where Smith was previously coaching.
