USU men’s lacrosse crushes SUU in second home game of the season
The Utah State University men’s lacrosse team smashed the Southern Utah University Thunderbirds at the Stan Laub Indoor Training Center on Sunday with a final score of 22-2
“It was a good win, we just had to focus on what we wanted to accomplish and play our game,” said USU midfielder Jaycen Biggs.
Before the win against SUU the Aggies won their first home game of the season on Friday against College of Idaho. The final score of that game was 18-10.
The Aggies’ record is now 3-1 coming out of their fourth game of the season.
Bryson Fell, a midfielder for USU, scored the first goal of the game. This started the Aggies’ run of 13 unanswered points.
The first half of the game was a shut out for the Aggies ending the half with a score of 12-0. The Thunderbird’s first goal didn’t come until a few minutes into the second half.
“My goalie Bear, he’s insane, he’s the best there is,” said Grant Hunter, USU long stick midfielder, when asked what he attributed the win to. “And our coaches, they work hard. I mean our practices are at like midnight and they show up every time.”
It was attackman Mac Call who scored the first goal for SUU. Both of the Thunderbirds’ goals came in the third quarter.
Despite the goals from their opponent the Aggies’ kept their momentum throughout the game in order to win by 20 points.
“We treated it like every other game,” Hunter said. “Past scores don’t matter. New game, new team, so we came out hard.”
The Aggies’ will hit the road next weekend for their next three games. They play California State University San Marcos on Friday, University of San Diego on Saturday and University of California San Diego on March 11.
This is only the start of this season for the Aggies and going forward Biggs said he expects to win and have a good season, Hunter repeated this same sentiment.
“I feel pretty confident,” Hunter said. “We’ve been putting in the work, all gas, no brakes. So, I feel like it’s gonna be a great season. We’re gonna kick butt at nationals.
