USU running back Darwin Thompson garners MWC Offensive Player of the Week honors
USU junior running back Darwin Thompson has been named the College Sports Madness Mountain West Offensive Player of the Week as of this past Sunday.
On Saturday night at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu, Hawai’i, Thompson rushed for 141 yards and three touchdowns on 13 carries. Along with that, he caught two passes for 37 yards, including a long of 34. Both the rushed yards and touchdowns are now recorded as career-highs for the Tulsa, OK native.
Thompson now leads the team with 13 rushing touchdowns on the season after scoring twice on the Rainbow Warriors from a yard out, and another time from 26 yards out. This was the junior’s fourth time this year that he has experienced multiple rushing touchdowns in a game. There has only been a single game thus far this season where Thompson has not scored a rushing touchdown.
Overall this season, the running back has rushed for 702 yards on 39 carries, and averages 78.0 yards per game. Thompson ranks first in the Mountain West and fourth in the nation in yards per carry. The 13 rushing touchdowns lock him in at first in the conference and fifth in the nation. Alongside these recognitions, Thompson is placed at third in the Mountain West and 23rd in the nation in the scoring division, and fourth in the conference and 53rd in the nation in rushing.
On Saturday, Nov. 10, the Aggies will face San Jose State here at home at 2 p.m. It will be the final home game of the season and the teams annual Senior Day game.
