USU student joins Sen. Bennett staff

Five Utah college students arrived in Washington, D.C. this week to intern in Senator Bob Bennett’s (R-Utah) D.C. office for the summer semester and assist the senator’s staff with administrative and legislative assignments.”I am fortunate to welcome some of Utah’s brightest college students to my Washington, D.C. office,” said Bennett. “This internship will enhance their classroom education and increase their knowledge of issues important to both Utah and our country by getting an up-close look at the way our government works.”A political science and international cultural studies major at Brigham Young University (BYU) Hawaii, Dustin Bradshaw comes to Bennett’s office excited to learn more about public policy and our legislative process. Bradshaw, a graduate of Beaver High School, served as BYU Hawaii’s student body vice president and is a member of the Pi Sigma Alpha and Phi Kappa Phi honors societies. Utah Valley State College (UVSC) honors student Nathan Gambill is studying English literature and plans to attend the University of Michigan Law School next year. He wrote for UVSC’s Sequel Magazine and Campus Times. Gambill received an honors scholarship, speaks Spanish, and was on the dean’s list during his time at UVSC. Marc Neilsen is a junior and political science student at Utah State University (USU) in Logan. A member of Pi Sigma Alpha and the Utah State College Republicans, Neilsen is also an active member of the Utah State National Forensics League. His interest in legislative research brought him to the Senate Rules Committee where Bennett is the ranking Republican member. He is a graduate of Sky View High School. Summer Price recently completed her term as student body president at BYU Provo. She is studying elementary education and hopes her internship will increase her knowledge of education public policy. During her time at BYU, Price served as a member of the BYU chapter of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. She also worked with Bradley Public Relations in Provo. Stephen Young is a junior at Utah State University where he is working on a major in law and constitutional studies with a minor in economics. A recipient of the USU presidential academic scholarship and a member of the Koch student scholars program, Young plans to graduate in December 2009. Young is a graduate of Layton High School where he was governor of the Utah Boys State program.
