USU Track and Field performs well at weekend home meet

Utah State Track and Field hosted the Aggie Invitational from Friday, April 8th to Saturday, April 9th.

Athletes from College of Idaho, Idaho State, Utah Valley, Southern Utah and BYU competed, but several events just had USU participants. In turn, the Aggies dominated the meet, taking home 23 titles. There were several personal bests as well, and three athletics claimed all-time top 10 marks in USU history.

Junior Zach Meyer finished first in the 110-meter hurdles for the men’s team. His personal best of 14.14 is the sixth fast time in school history.

“I got a pretty solid PR so it was a good day,” Meyer said “It was a big meet. I had a really good opener last year at the same exact meet so to do it again one year later was really awesome, especially at home.”

Eight additional men won titles, including two from Nebraska transfer Dominic Bentil. Bentil claimed first place in the Men’s 400 Meter and Men’s 200 Meter with times of 47.33 and 21.16 respectively.

On the women’s side, the Aggies finished first in 14 events.

Sophomore Maren Garnett won the pole vault with a height of 3.95 meters, the fourth-highest jump in USU history. Gia Malone won the high jump and long jump, jumping 1.5 meters and 5.85 meters respectively. Malone’s long jump is ninth all-time in school history.

Utah State will travel to Southern California to compete at the Long Beach Invitational and Mt. SAC Relays on April 14-16.
