USU Women fall to UNLV in MW Quarterfinals

LAS VEGAS — Utah State Women’s Basketball fell to the No. 1 seeded UNLV Lady Rebels on Monday by a score of 69-82 in the 2022 Mountain West Conference Women’s Tournament.

One of the difference makers of this game was the Aggies lack of ability to shoot the three, shooting just 8-of-30 (26.7%) from the arc.

Utah State, who entered the tournament as the nine seed, had an early 9-2 lead to start the game, but couldn’t maintain the lead throughout the quarter as UNLV took an 18-19 lead into the second quarter, and led the Aggies by 11 at halftime.

USU was down by 17 in the third quarter but began to play better. After giving up 14 first-half turnovers, only gave up four turnovers in the second half. They’d cut the deficit to six in the 4th quarter.

That’s the closest they would get.

It was an impressive game from junior Adryana Quezada, who had 26 points on 10 for 15 shooting. In addition to her strong scoring effort, Quezada grabbed six rebounds with three coming on the offensive end.

Quezada has scored in double figures in 14 of the last 15 games with eight of them scoring 20+ points.

Despite the unfortunate end to their season, Utah State won three of its four final games which moved their record to 11-19, which is a noticeable increase from their 4-20 record last season.
