USU women’s basketball receives invite to Women’s Basketball Invitational

The Utah State Women’s Basketball team has received and accepted an invitation to play in the Women’s Basketball Invitational. The Aggies will start the tournament playing at Idaho on Wednesday.

The Aggies enter the 16-team tournament at 17-14 after going 9-9 in Mountain West Conference play. The Aggies also had some success in the conference tournament, beating Air Force 46-40 before losing to UNLV in the quarterfinals.

This is the first postseason tournament appearance for the Aggies since the 2012-13 season in which the Aggies hosted South Dakota State in the first round of the WBI, losing 77-69.

The game allows another opportunity for senior Antoina Robinson to suit up in an Aggie uniform. In her final season, the Dallas-native has averaged 4.9 points per game to go along with 4.0 rebounds.

It remains to be seen if Mountain West Freshman of the Year Eliza West will be available for the tournament. The freshman guard was limited during the conference tournament with a hand injury, reaggravating the injury in the process. West has averaged a team-leading 5.4 assists in conference play this season.

Under head coach Jerry Finkbeiner, who recently signed a three-year contract extension with Utah State, the Aggies have gone 4-5 in postseason play, including conference tournaments.

The Aggies will look to continue their season and advance in the WBI this Wednesday at Idaho at 6:30 pm.
