USU women’s shot put squad ranks top in nation

The Utah State women’s shot put squad is currently leading the nation in average throw distance, with the top four throwers for USU averaging a mark of 15.41 meters for their most recent throws.

The Aggies are the only team in the country currently to feature three throwers who have surpassed the 15-meter mark, as sophomore Maia Garren, junior Brenn Flint, and senior Olivia Moriconi have all passed that benchmark.

Flint currently holds the school’s record in the shot put event, where she recorded a throw of 16.82m at the UC Irvine classic earlier this season. Moriconi sits second in school history with a throw of 16.37m, which she recorded at the Utah/Weber State Spring Classic last weekend. Garren holds the fourth all-time mark at USU with her throw of 15.54m which was also set at the Utah/Weber State Spring Classic. The fourth thrower on the team is freshman Tori Bailey, who had a throw of 12.90m last weekend.

USU is just 0.12m ahead of the second-place North Dakota State squad, which has an average of 15.29m.

The Aggies will be back in action this weekend when they will hold their lone-home meet of the season, the Mark Faldmo Invitational, at the Ralph Maughan track stadium on Friday and Saturday.
