USU women’s soccer adds final signing to 2020 class
Utah State University women’s soccer finished off its 2020 recruiting class yesterday, by adding Utah 4A MVP Alysia Butters from Ogden High School.
In her senior season with the Tigers, Butters netted 25 goals and dished out eight assists, while leading her school to the state title. Butters earned first-team all-state honors from the Deseret News, all-area soccer MVP by the Standard-Examiner and MVP honors for Ogden High School. Playing as both an attacking mid and holding mid, Butters totaled 41 goals and 26 assists during her prep career, while earning varsity letters all four years.
In her last game with the Tigers, she stepped up to the spot and effortlessly converted a penalty, freezing the keeper in the process. This put Ogden up 2-1 with 15 minutes left in the state title game.

“I am very excited to welcome Alysia to the Aggie soccer family,” said USU head coach Heather Cairns. “She is a versatile player who shined, leading her high school team to the state championship as an attacker. With her soccer IQ, composure and heading ability, I anticipate her playing in either the defensive center midfield or center back positions for us.”
Utah State returns a solid holding midfielder in senior Amber Marshall, but lost its rock at center back, Mealii Enos, who graduated after the 2019 season.
Butters is one of 10 Aggies heading to Logan next season, with Addy Symonds (Highland, Utah), Adree Johnson (Huntsville, Utah), HalleKate Munson (Holladay, Utah), Heidi Smith (Santa Clara, Utah), Kelsey Steed (Syracuse, Utah), Kenli Coon (Draper, Utah), Kylie Olsen (Logan, Utah), Whitney Lopez (Logan, Utah) and Sui Pauni (Logan, Utah), who all previously signed in November.
