USU-BYU Game: Student tickets for game are limited
USU men’s basketball fans beware.
Students who do not have a ticket on hand when they arrive at EnergySolutions arena Dec. 6 will not be admitted into the USU-BYU men’s game, said ASUSU Director Tiffany Evans.
According to a contractual agreement between USU, BYU and EnergySolutions Arena, each school was allotted 2,000 student tickets and 7,000 for season-ticket holders.
USU’s 2,000 will go on sale Dec. 1 for $5 each in the East Ballroom of the TSC.
From 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., tickets will be available only to HURD members that bring a valid USU ID card and HURD card. HURD members will only be able to purchase one ticket at a time, Evans said.
However, from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. tickets will be available to any student with a valid USU ID card. Evans said this second group can purchase as many tickets as they want as long as they have valid USU ID cards for those they wish to buy them for.
What if HURD members take all the tickets in those first 90 minutes?
“That is not possible,” Evans said. “If every single HURD member comes and buys a ticket, there will still be approximately 700 tickets left.”
HURD president Megan Darrington seconded Evans’ statement. Thursday, Darrington said there are 1,340 HURD members, and an average of 500 show up to the club’s events. Darrington also said HURD has a goal to reach 2,000 members by May, so it is highly unlikely they will eat up the 2,000 tickets on Dec. 1.
Students can sign up for HURD in TSC 326.
A press release sent out Wednesday by ASUSU stated that tickets would only be available to purchase Dec. 1. However, Evans said any remaining tickets will be sold in the ticket office in TSC 212.
Jana Doggett, senior associate athletic director of external operations, said there is possibly one other option for students that miss out on the 2,000.
Thursday Doggett was unable to give a specific number of USU season-ticket holders for men’s basketball, but said all current season-ticket holders have received a ticket to the game.
Doggett said the remaining tickets will be available only to season-ticket holders and Big Blue Club members until Nov. 29. If there are still tickets available from that pool of 7,000, students will be able to buy them for $25 through EnergySolutions – not through the USU Ticket Office.
According to its Web site, EnergySolutions Arena seats 22,000 people. However, 18,000 of those seats are general seating; the other seats are located in the suites, which can only be used by those who purchase the suites, Doggett said.
