USU’s hoops seniors to play at charity tournament in Roy

Four USU basketball seniors will get one more chance to play each other Saturday at a fund-raising event in Roy.

The Tara’s 2001 University Alumni All-Star Spring Classic Tournament will be held at Roy High School from 2 p.m. through the evening. Teams involved in the tournament include former men’s and women’s college players from USU, Weber State University, Southern Utah University, Brigham Young University and the University of Utah.

The men’s game will start at 8:30 p.m.

USU and Weber State will combine to take on Utah and BYU. Forwards Curtis Bobb and Shawn Daniels join Dimitri Jorssen and Bernard Rock will play for USU. Kendal Youngblood, a USU player from 1989 to 1992, will also compete. The five will be combined with three Wildcats. The BYU/Utah team includes Terrell Lyday, Mekeli Wesley, Trent Whiting and Nate Althoff.

Admission is $4. Discounted tickets for each doubleheader will be available to students for $2 and children for $1.

All proceeds will go to Northern Utah Youth Association, which helps children develop better learning, recreation and social skills, among other things.

In the women’s games, Weber State will take on SUU at 2 p.m., and Utah and BYU face off at 4 p.m. The winner will play for the championship at 6:30.

Ogden City Jr. Jazz games will be played at each halftime.
