Utah Festival Opera outlines summer season
The summer season of the Utah Festival Opera Company will soon be on stage. Here are some highlights:
The Barber of Seville, by Gioachino Rossini.
It’s one close shave after another when the resourceful barber, Figaro, concocts an uproarious scheme to free the vivacious young Rosina from her jealous guardian. Full of
disguises and surprises, intercepted notes and hilarious tricks. Make Rossini’s comedy a part of your summer!
Guys and Dolls, by Frank Loesser.
Considered by many to be the perfect musical comedy, Guys & Dolls has one Broadway
hit after another, introducing us to a cast of vivid characters:Sarah Brown, played by
Vanessa Ballam, the upright but uptight reformer; SkyMasterson, the slick, high-rolling gambler; Adelaide, the chronically ill nightclub performer; and Nathan Detroit, Adelaide’s devoted fianceÅL engaged to her for the past 14 years. Also including, Michael Ballam.
The Sound of Music, by Rodgers & Hammerstein
The hills are alive in beautiful Cache Valley with the sound of the world’s most beloved musical. Rodgers & Hammerstein’s The Sound of Music stars Vanessa Ballam as Maria, the high-spirited nun turned governess, who captures the heart of the stern Capt. von Trapp and his seven young children.
LaTraviata by Giuseppe Verdi
