Utah man arrested for sexual abuse

Logan City Police detectives arrested Michael Hans in connection with complaints from girls who said they were grabbed and fondled by him.

Captain Greg Ridler of the Logan City Police Department said Hans is a suspect for two counts of sexual abuse of a child, a second-degree felony.

A child is someone under the age of 14. Sexual abuse is defined as inappropriate touching – either on the breasts or genitals – that causes distress. The victims, 12- and 13-year-old girls, reported the incident immediately upon arriving home, Ridler said.

Hans was arrested at his home in Logan on Monday.

Ridler said there are also three counts of forcible sexual abuse for which Hans is a suspect. One incident happened at Smith’s and the other at the Cache Valley Mall.

“He was also interviewed by the Cache County Sheriff’s Office about an offense in Hyrum [for which he is also a suspect],” Ridler said.

Hans will be arraigned in the 1st District Court, located at 140 N. 100 West in Logan. His arraignment is set for 1:15 p.m. Thursday in Judge Thomas L. Willmore’s courtroom. Until then, Hans will remain incarcerated in the Cache County Jail.

Ridler said the investigation is continuing.
