Utah State announces death of Blake Anderson’s son
Utah State University Athletics offered their sympathy to head football coach Blake Anderson and his family following the tragic death of his son.
“On behalf of Utah State University, the athletics department and the football program, our thoughts and prayers are with coach Blake Anderson and his family following the tragic death of his son,” athletic director John Hartwell tweeted on Wednesday afternoon.
Anderson tweeted on Monday, “God is STILL God in the midst of our broken (heart).”

The Cache Valley community has expressed their gratitude and love for Anderson on social media. Among the supporters are Utah State Men’s Basketball players Brock Miller and Justin Bean.
“Love you Coach, we are all praying for you and your family,” Miller tweeted.
“Claire and I send our love and prayers to you and your family Coach A,” Bean added.
Beyond the local community, athletic departments, sports media outlets, and football fans across the country have shared their condolences for the Anderson family.
“[Pray] for Coach Anderson and his family,” tweeted Washington State football’s head coach, Jake Dickert.
Locally, BYU football and Utah football both tweeted out their condolences.
Anderson has endured loss in recent years. His wife, Wendy, passed away from cancer in August of 2019 and his father died in March of 2020.
Anderson was hired as Utah State’s head coach in December 2020 after coaching seven seasons at Arkansas State.
In his first full season at Utah State, Anderson led the Aggies to an 11-3 record and their first-ever Mountain West championship.
