Utah State Basketball Adds International Wing Player

 Utah State men’s basketball coach Stew Morrill announced Thursday Adam Thoseby (thos-bee) has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Aggies beginning in the 2011-12 season.

Prior to enrolling at Utah State this fall, Thoseby will play for Great Britain’s Under 20 basketball team that will participate in the European Championships in July.

Thoseby, a 6-4, 190-pound guard/forward from Henley-on-Thames, England spent the 2010-11 season at Maine Central Institute (MCI) Prep helping the Huskies to a 20-11 record and the New England Preparatory School Athletic Council (NEPSAC) Class AAA title.

“Adam is a player who possesses excellent athletic ability along with solid basketball skills,” said Morrill.  “He is a hard worker with very good potential and his international experience will certainly help his development as a player.  We are excited to have Adam join our program.”

During his one season at MCI, Thoseby averaged 7.3 points, 1.4 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game, while shooting 41.9 percent from the field (83-198), 36.2 percent from three-point range (25-69) and 79.5 percent at the free throw line (35-44).

“Adam is a very exciting player because of his athletic ability and I believe his best basketball is still ahead of him,” said MCI head coach Dave Campbell.  “Adam is a very good jump shooter and he will fit in well with Utah State’s system.  He is also a very good kid and an excellent student.”

Prior to coming over to the United States, Thoseby played his senior season of high school with the Under 18 Reading Rockets where he averaged 27 points, seven rebounds and three assists per game.  During his final game of the season in a national finals appearance, he scored 34 points hitting 8-of-10 three-pointers.

The Reading Rockets is an EBL Amateur Club team and is recognized as one of the top five clubs in Britain with one of the best junior development programs.
