Utah State football player charged with multiple felonies

A member of the Utah State football team was arrested on Friday and charged with multiple felonies for possession and distribution of illegal drugs.

Senior tight end Chris Copier, 24, was charged with six counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute. He was also charged with possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person.

All of the charges are second or third degree felonies, which carry penalties of one to 15 years in prison and fines up to $10,000 and up to five years in prison with up to a $5,000 fine, respectively.

Copier has been suspended from the team indefinitely.

The arrest was made after a traffic stop in Logan on Friday. Police found a quarter-pound of marijuana in Copier’s vehicle, along with 46 ecstasy pills.

After obtaining a warrant, police searched Copier’s home and found additional marijuana, Xanax pills and mushrooms, as well as a handgun and approximately $1,600 in cash.

Copier was released from custody after paying a $55,000 bond.

A JUCO transfer from Snow College, Copier played in 10 games for the Aggies last season, catching one pass for 35 yards.
