Utah State Leads Big West In Spring Academic Honorees
Utah State University anded 40 of its student-athletes on the Big West Conference spring sport all-academic teams to lead the league in number of selections. Among USU’s honorees were three-time selections Robert Crockett, David Kunnas and Steven Prescott from men’s track, and Stephanie Vasarhely from softball.
Utah State’s 40 honorees topped Idaho, which was second with 30 selections. USU also led the conference last year with 33 spring academic all-stars and finished second in 2001 with 27.
USU’s 40 selections gave the school a total of 66 Big West Conference academic honorees this year. The Aggies were second in the conference in fall selections with 23 and had three winter picks from men’s basketball. USU also had eight selections in the Western Gymnastics Conference for a total of 74 student-athletes recognized for their efforts in the classroom.
This spring, Utah State had 16 selections from men’s track, 11 selections from women’s track, five from women’s tennis, four from men’s tennis, three from softball and one from men’s golf.
To be eligible for the all-academic team, student-athletes must have a 3.2 cumulative grade-point average, be a sophomore academically and competed in at least 50 percent of their team’s contests.
