Utah State University Displays School Pride by Winning Salt Lake City Marathon Melee Challenge

Salt Lake City – May 2, 2008 – Utah State University won the Salt Lake City Marathon Melee challenge by recruiting the most students, faculty, staff and alumni from their school to participate in marathon events.

The Marathon Melee was a competition to see which Utah school could recruit the most participants in the marathon, half-marathon, 5K and bike tour races. School colors were proudly worn by Dixie, University of Utah, Utah State University and Weber throughout the Salt Lake City Marathon events by each participant to show their school pride.

“We are fortunate to have a supportive student body and an active alumni association who really threw their support behind this great cause,” said Megan Darrington, student representation from USU. “There is a tremendous sense of Aggie pride among students and alum and we appreciate their participation in this program.” The Marathon Melee was designed to involve Utah’s colleges and universities in the marathon events. Recruiting efforts began at each of the participating schools one month prior to race weekend

The Marathon Melee is now planned as an annual event in hopes to have the competition grow. Each year the trophy will be passed around to the school that shows the most school pride. Recently elected ASUSU president Grady Brimley accepted the trophy on behalf of USU at an awards ceremony at the Salt Lake City Marathon.
