UTAH STATE UNIVERSITY MUSEUM OF ANTHROPOLOGY BRINGS BELLY DANCING TO THE AMPHITHEATER ON OLD MAIN HILL

Utah State University’s Museum of Anthropology introduces a new program, “Anthropology and the Arts,” in a summer series that begins Wednesday, June 18, with a performance by the USU Middle Eastern Dance Club. The performance begins at 7 p.m. at the outdoor amphitheater on Old Main Hill.

The USU Middle Eastern Dance Club (USUMED) performs a beautiful ethnic dance form that teaches grace, coordination and strength, event organizers said. The club will showcase the Troupe Shazadi, performing traditional folkloric dances. An audience instruction period will be included in the performance.

Admission is free and no ticket is required, but a $2 suggested donation will support the museum and the dance club. Refreshments will be sold at the event as well.

Following the performance, the Museum of Anthropology, located in Old Main, room 252, will be open to the public.

The Anthropology and the Arts performance series is newly created and will continue through the summer with a Brazilian martial arts display by capoeiraist Jamaika July 5 and a Highland bagpipe performance by Jeremy Gordon Aug. 8. The series is supported by a grant from the Marie Eccles Caine Foundation and will be continued next academic year at Utah State.
