Utah State University’s Romney Stadium Rocks Independence Day

Freedom Fire, Logan City’s Independence Day celebration, opens with a bang as the legendary rock band Kansas takes center stage in Utah State University’s Romney Stadium July 3.

With special guests, the American Festival Chorus and John Jacobsen’s America Sings!, July 3 promises to be the biggest Independence Day celebration in northern Utah, event organizers said.

“This year’s star-spangled event will spark excitement throughout Cache Valley as Kansas rocks Romney Stadium,” said Russ Akina, Logan city parks and recreation director.

John Jacobson, founder and volunteer president of America Sings! Inc., will also bring more than 300 local youth performers to the field. The youth groups will dance and sing with Kansas and the American Festival Chorus. Following the performances, a spectacular fireworks show will complete the festivities, Akina said.

“Celebrating Independence Day with Kansas, Craig Jessop, the American Festival Chorus and Orchestra and John Jacobson will be a night to remember,” said James Bankhead, music department head in the USU Caine College of the Arts and Freedom Fire executive producer.

Kansas has produced eight gold albums, three sextuple-Platinum albums and a million-selling gold single, “Dust in the Wind.” Another hit, “Carry on Wayward Son,” was one of the most played tracks on classic rock radio in the mid and late ’90s.
