Utah State¹s Devin Daniels Sets Course Record At Utah State Amateur
Utah Utah State senior-to-be Devin Daniels set a course record withan eight-under par 64 during the first day of competition at the 110thconsecutive Utah State Amateur on Wednesday at Soldier Hollow Golf Course inMidway. In all, 293 golfers are competing in this year¹s State Am.
Daniels, a native of Hyde Park, birded four of the first six holes he playedand eagled two par fives to break the Gold Course record of 66 set just afew minutes earlier by Dixie State¹s Andrew Barton. Going into Wednesday¹sopening round, the course record was 67 set two years ago.
Daniels will continue stroke play on Thursday on the easier Silver Course,looking to be one of 31 golfers to advance to match play which begins onFriday.
Four other Aggies competed in the State Am on Wednesday, but Tyler Labrum(Roosevelt, Utah) was the only other USU golfer to finish under par as heshot a two-under 70 on the Gold Course and is tied for 11th. Toph Peterson(Logan, Utah) shot a two-over 74, while Dan Heath (Smithfield, Utah)finished at six-over (78) and Thad Truman (Blackfoot, Idaho) carded an 81.
