Utes beat USU women’s basketball team
The Utah State women’s basketball team continued its six-game road trip Tuesday afternoon with a stop in Salt Lake City to take on the University of Utah. The Aggies fell to the Utes 92-64.
With the loss USU falls to 2-4 on the season, while Utah remains perfect at 6-0.
The Aggies were led by senior Devyn Christensen who scored 18 points. Senior Jenna Johnson chipped in with points. Junior Taryn Wicijowski was the Utes leading scorer with 21 points. Junior Michelle Plouffe had 19 points for Utah.
USU got on the board first with a 3-pointer by freshman Stephanie Bairstow. It was the only lead the Aggies had in the game as the Utes took the lead for good with 19 minutes left in the first half.
The Aggies went into halftime down 41-18. USU shot 30 percent from the field in the first half senior Jenna Johnson had a team-high six poitns. Junior Taryn Wicijowski had 13 points for the Utes at half.
USU shot the ball better in the second half with 42 percent, but the Utes countered by shooting 51 percent from the field. Utah held off any comeback by outscoring the Aggies in the paint 42-30 and had strong contributions from their bench.
The Aggies will play their first home game of the season Saturday when they host Montana State in the Spectrum. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
