Volleyball drops 5-set heartbreaker

CURTIS LUNDSTROM, sports senior writer

Looking for its eighth win in nine games, the Utah State volleyball team fell victim to in-state rival Utah Valley as the Wolverines came from two sets down to stun the Aggies in five sets Tuesday at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum.

Taking a break from conference play, the Aggies hit their way to a 2-0 set lead behind 22 kills from senior Shay Sorensen and nine kills from freshman Elle Brainard – both career highs.

Unfortunately for the Aggies, future-WAC member Utah Valley stormed back with a potent offense to fight off two match points and win three straight to steal the win.

Utah State will resume conference play Saturday, Oct. 13 when San Jose comes to Logan.
First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
