Volleyball team holds lead over SJSU

It was back to the win column for the Utah State volleyball team with a sweep of the San Jose Spartans on Saturday at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum.

For the second-consecutive match the Aggies raced to a two-sets-to-none lead, but this time around USU made sure there wouldn’t be a collapse.

Sophomore outside hitter Rachel Orr recorded a match-high 12 kills while hitting .524 on the night, and was on pace to break a school record through the first two sets with a hitting percentage greater than .900.

The Spartans were led by Mary Alice O’Reilly, who had 10 kills, but a negative hitting percentage in the third set doomed any hopes SJSU had of mounting a comeback.

Utah State improved to 13-6 overall and a WAC-best 8-1, while San Jose State fell to 8-11 overall and 4-5 in WAC play.

The Aggies will be back in action on Monday, Oct 15 against the University of Texas-San Antonio, with first serve schedule for 7 p.m.
