War in Iraq

Over the past several weeks there have been several opinions offered on the issue of Iraq. One person wondered where the 60’s generation had gone wrong in raising their youth. Another person stated that America doesn’t know what it is like to have a war in our country. And most recently, one writer claimed that Israel should be the focus of U.S. and British concern in the Middle East.

I would like to respond by saying that nobody wants war. I don’t want war. I don’t believe any rational person wants war. But in this case we are not dealing with rational people. We already know that terrorist will do whatever it takes to kill Americans and destroy our nation. They are committed to it. So what makes Iraq so different?

If someone had proposed a preemtive strike on Afghanistan in August of 2001 because terrorists there were planning a massive attack on the U.S. I suppose we would have heard similar arguments against that.

We should learn from our past. We have a madman in the Middle East and contrary to popular opinion, it isn’t Ariel Sharon. There is a threat to Americans and we should confront it before it confronts us.
