What USU events might look like this fall semester
It’s no secret that the coronavirus has turned the world upside down. Remember receiving various emails from professors informing students that classes would be canceled until remote access was available? It was a shocking transition for everyone. Social distancing has included shutting down businesses and classrooms for the time being, but what is expected from Utah State University for the coming semester?
The short answer is we don’t know.
The long answer is we are optimistic.
According to USU Today, Utah State University is prepared to resume in-person classes during fall 2020. However, the coming semester will likely be drastically different than the usual. For example, “students will experience diverse methods of instructional delivery, which will include traditional in-person classrooms, hybrid or blending learning, or online delivery in some classes.” On top of these changes, USU will likely implement the guidelines given to us from the state: wearing facemasks and social distancing among other measures. Again, as of right now, the University is unsure how COVID-19 will affect the coming semester, but classes will be available regardless.
USUSA is prepared to make changes to the usual “weeks of welcome” events, but the plans aren’t set in stone yet. Similarly to class schedules this fall, planned social activities will still take place, but whether or not they will be virtual is up in the air for now. Blue Crew member Melody Wooten explained, “I think we’re just all hoping this virus blows over so we can plan in-person events, so that’s why nothings been planned yet.”
Due to all of the uncertainty surrounding the coronavirus, student groups like Blue Crew have not started planning any events yet. In other words, as of right now it is uncertain if the parties and social events Utah State University usually puts on will be happening, as usual, this year. It is very possible that virtual events will take place instead of in-person parties.
USUSA has already done a few virtual events like lip sync competitions, homemade pop tarts and USU summer bucket lists.
