Where’s Betty Blue?

Staci Peterson

After Utah State University’s nail-biting defeat by BYU on Oct. 4, there was another heartbreaking loss.

Betty Blue, the Aggie mascot’s girlfriend, was kidnapped from the northeast corner of the football field sometime between the beginning of the fourth quarter and the end of the game.

For Big Blue, this is a devastating loss.

Blue, a senior history major, said, “I carried her to the north end zone at the beginning of the fourth quarter, and after the game, I went to get her and she was gone. I thought that someone else picked her up on the squad.”

After missing Betty Blue for four days, Big Blue reported the theft to the police department.

Chief Steve Mecham of USU Police said, “This is a second-degree felony because of the value.”

The BYU Police Department has also been notified of the theft.

Blue said it will cost $3,000 to replace Betty Blue, which is an older mascot costume.

Blue has a newer costume, which is around $4,500, he said.

The absence of Betty Blue is an enormous loss to the squad, because she is used several times in the cheers throughout games, Blue said.

“I think that [Betty] might even show up on Halloween. I think that someone is trying to be funny,” he said.

Mecham said police are using the description of a white male, approximately 20 years old, who has long, blond hair.

Those who know anything about the situation with Betty Blue or who have heard any rumors floating around can call the USU Police at 797-1939.
