Brett Favre Retiring?
After 17 years of playing in the NFL, Brett Favre has finally decided to hang up the cleats and retire. I stand and applaud the man for his decision. What does he have left to prove in the NFL? Nothing. He’s won MVP’s, has a Super Bowl ring, and will go down as one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history. Last year was an amazing story for Favre and kids in Green Bay. They went on an improbable run to the NFC championship game. As much as Packer fans deny it, the chances of a season like that happening again are slim to none. Favre himself admitted to being mentally tired, which makes his decision all the more intelligent. Favre can now go home to Mississippi and relax, shoot squirrels and sit around on a front porch in a rocking chair. Sounds good to me.
Four #1 Seeds in NCAA tournament
I won’t attempt to rank the top four seeds, but here are the teams I think will end up with a No. 1 seed for the tournament, in no particular order. Duke, Memphis, Kansas, and North Carolina. Here’s the breakdown. Duke is probably the biggest surprise No. 1 seed. But they beat North Carolina on the road earlier and will most likely face the Tar Heels in the conference tournament, either of which will put them in the top spot. Memphis is currently ranked No. 2 in the Associated Press poll and has two games left and an easy walk through its conference tournament. Kansas will be in after winning their conference tournament. North Carolina will lose at Duke in their regular season finale but will bounce back to beat the Blue Devils in the championship game of the ACC.
Biggest NFL free agent signing? Aside from my San Francisco 49ers picking up the ever-exciting and durable running back, DeShaun Foster from Carolina, the biggest signing was by the New England Patriots when they resigned Randy Moss. Jokes aside, Moss had to be one of the biggest impact players in the league last year. He and quarterback Tom Brady were playing together for the first time and ended up breaking some of the biggest records in NFL history. That’s a pretty big deal. I know neither of them are getting younger, but they still have some good ball left to play. Sure, Moss did absolutely nothing in the playoffs, but I expect him to come back hungry for a Super Bowl ring.
World Series Winner
It’s the time of year where baseball players and fans can start getting ready for the 5,876 game long season. Buy your popcorn, cracker jacks and anything else to help you get through this marathon of a season called the Major League Baseball season, but I’m straying from the topic. Who will win the World Series this year? If I were to claim a team in baseball, it would be the Chicago Cubs. Last time I checked, it’s been a few years since they won the World Series, so I’m not going to go with a homer pick on this one. If I had to guess-and that’s exactly what it is-because, honestly, I lack knowledge when it comes to America’s past time. I think the Boston Red Sox will win.
Rant
March, the greatest month of the year, is once again upon us, and I couldn’t be happier. I was born in the month of March. That was a good thing. Spring break is coming up, and who isn’t excited for a break from test and papers and anything associated with school? And most of all, March Madness is upon us. For Aggie fans, madness starts a little early with a critical regular season game tomorrow against Boise State. Then comes championship week. This is where it really counts for mid-major teams like Utah State, who rely on a tournament championship win to get their name on a tournament bracket. After that, let the madness begin, starting off with Selection Sunday and running for the next three weeks. It’s the most intense, competitive basketball you will ever see. How can you not get excited? Go Aggies.
