The Utah State University women’s basketball team will travel to Orem this weekend to take part in the UVSC Jamboree tournament at the McKay Events Center.

Utah State will be the only club basketball team participating. All of the junior colleges in Utah and BYU-Idaho will also be competing.

Assistant coach Shanna Stevens said host team UVSC and BYU-Idaho will offer the toughest competition.

Competing with teams which receive school funding is not always easy, but Stevens said the girls who could play elsewhere come to play at USU for academic reasons.

“Utah State is one of the top educational institutions in the nation,” Stevens said. “The community is awesome too, they offer us a lot of support.”

Stevens believes versatility and foul shooting are strengths for this year’s team. Something team members would like to improve on is their passing.

The Aggies will rely on players such as center Michelle Dyreng, guard Tara Sorensen and forward Kathryn Symmes.

Although the Aggies don’t specifically know who they will be playing in each game because of the tournament format, the game times will be 9 a.m., 10 a.m., 2 p.m., 3 p.m. and 4 p.m.
