Women’s basketball sacks Vandals

The Utah State women’s basketball team was in action Thursday night then they hosted the University of Idaho at the Spectrum. The Aggies beat the Vandals 81-50.  

Senior Jenna Johnson led the way for USU with a double-double. Johnson had 19 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore Franny Vaaulu chipped in with 15 points and six rebounds.

It was a good first half for USU as the team took a 14 point lead into the break. Johnson led the Aggies with 10 points and six rebounds. Vaaulu had nine points. USU began the game on a 12-4 run but the Vandals cut it to 12-10. From there the Aggies started pulling away to lead 35-21 at halftime.

USU continued its stellar play in the second half and was able to build on its lead. Senior Devyn Christensen hit three free throws midway through the second half to break the all-time women’s record for free throws made in a career.

This was the second meeting between the two schools this season. The Aggies won in Moscow 91-85.

The Aggies next game will be Saturday night when they welcome first place Seattle University to the Spectrum. Tipoff will be at 7 p.m.

The winner of the game will take sole possession of first place in the WAC. Seattle won the first meeting 71-68 in overtime.
