Women’s soccer falls to Utes 2-0
Despite a great showing of fan support, the Utah State University women’s soccer team was unable to hold off the University of Utah on Thursday when it was shut out 2-0 on Tower Field.
With the loss, the Aggies drop to 6-10-1 on the season. The Utes improved their record to 10-5-0 and extended their winning streak to four games.
The first goal of the game was scored by senior Amy Kofoed only 10 minutes into the first half. The second and final goal of the match came from the Utes’ leading scorer, junior Shauna Gurr-Bingham, three minutes into the second half.
“I feel like we played the best game we could play,” Head Coach Jen Kennedy Croft said. “We played 90 minutes today and that’s all I want of them. Utah got an early goal on what I thought was a bad call … she was offsides, and then they got another good goal.
“I think we played the best we could as a team,” she said.
USU took nine shots throughout the match, with each of Utah’s goalies Lynnsey Asay and Courtney Hills splitting the game and both posting two saves each.
The Utes took 17 shots during the game, with Aggie goalkeeper Tracy Brady notching seven saves.
There were many goal opportunities for the Aggies with junior Brigid Turner leading in attempted goals with four shots. Senior Becky Ward took two while Michelle Eversman, Kennon Roeber, and Brittany Baugh each took one shot.
“We just like to hit the back of the net, and we got our chances, we just need to shoot a little more and be confident in our outside shot,” Croft said.
This Sunday, the Aggies will face their final opponent of the 2001 season as they host the University of Idaho on Sunday at noon.
Idaho is coming to face the Aggies with an 8-8-3 record overall and 2-5-1 in the Big West Conference.
