Workout has low impact on joints, no impact on funds

Water aerobics classes are offered free of charge to students at Utah State University through the Student Activity Board (STAB)) at the HPER.

These classes are offered Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 6:30 to 7:30 a.m. in the HPER pool and 1:30 to 2:30 through Campus Recreation, according to the Campus Recreation pamphlet.

Water aerobics is the best because it’s low impact on the joints, it strengthens (the muscles), tones (the muscles) and is great for water distance. Another reason it is so great is because you lose 90 percent of your body weight in the water, so it’s a great place to exercise, he said.

“Our biggest class has been about 47 students, but our average is around 20,” Bauer said.

“We’d like to offer more (water aerobics) classes, but our instructor is a student, already teaching two classes and attends classes of her own, so we can’t.”

Bauer said he thinks it is so popular with students because it’s free and tones up so many different muscles.

Campus Recreation offers a deep water aerobics class on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. in the HPER pool, which is free to students.

“You don’t need to know how to swim to participate. We have belts you wear to keep you afloat,” Bauer said.

The HPER offers an open swim for anyone 6 months or older Monday through Friday from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

“Young children are welcome as long as they are diapered,” Bauer said.

The water aerobics classes are open to students at any time, Bauer said.

The classes are on going so there is no need to sign up, Bauer said.
