{"id":22111740,"date":"2020-10-27T10:00:11","date_gmt":"2020-10-27T16:00:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/usustatesman.com\/?p=22111740"},"modified":"2020-10-26T12:24:34","modified_gmt":"2020-10-26T18:24:34","slug":"an-album-plucked-from-1985-razzmatazz","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/usustatesman.com\/an-album-plucked-from-1985-razzmatazz\/","title":{"rendered":"An album plucked from 1985: &#8216;Razzmatazz&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On Friday, Utah\u2019s own I Don\u2019t Know How But They Found Me released their first full-length album, \u201cRazzmatazz.\u201d Previous to this, the band had released an EP titled \u201c1981 Extended Play\u201d in 2018 and a handful of singles. Unlike most bands, the members of I Don\u2019t Know How But They Found Me, usually stylized as IDKHow, both came from other projects and teamed up to create a \u201csecret\u201d kind of band. They began releasing songs on YouTube in early 2016 with the hope that the people who discovered them would see IDKHow as a forgotten act lost among a sea of creation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The first matter that duo Dallon Weekes and Ryan Seaman needed to figure out was how to disconnect from their previous projects: Panic! At the Disco and Falling in Reverse, respectively. \u201c1981 Extended Play\u201d was a small taste of that disconnect, but \u201cRazzmatazz\u201d proves the duo are capable of creating their own place on the musical spectrum.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The opening track, \u201cLeave Me Alone,\u201d has Weekes passionately making a point that \u201cyou\u2019re a big shot here, but nobody else knows. Now, I want you to leave me alone.\u201d A fast-paced drumbeat overlays a saxophone, taking listeners back to the golden era of Huey Lewis and the News and Duran Duran.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"I DONT KNOW HOW BUT THEY FOUND ME - Leave Me Alone (Official Music Video)\" width=\"960\" height=\"540\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/iwpnuaBoKPU?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cNobody Likes the Opening Band\u201d talks about just that. Nobody comes to a concert for the opening band, and a lot of times it\u2019s annoying to have to sit through an act you don\u2019t care for. However, Weekes has made it clear that opening bands are more important than we might think. Every major band once started out as openers, with their \u201csecond-hand guitars\u201d and \u201cuninspired faces.\u201d Starting a band is tough, but even IDKHow once opened on stage before they started their own.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIt could have been really easy to come out of the gate and say \u2018Hey, we\u2019re from these bands,\u2019\u201d said Weekes in a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/usustatesman.com\/aggie-radio-interview-idkhow-frontman-dallon-weekes-on-life-after-being-former-bass-player-of-panic-at-the-disco\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2018 interview<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with The Utah Statesman, \u201cbut that seemed really disingenuous so we wanted to build our own credibility.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"instagram-media\" data-instgrm-captioned data-instgrm-permalink=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CFQOYimh0m2\/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;utm_campaign=loading\" data-instgrm-version=\"13\" style=\" background:#FFF; They have over 1.8 million daily listeners and their number one single, \u201cChoke,\u201d is sitting at 54 million streams on Spotify. Weekes and Seaman have proved that creating music is beyond simple talent but is a playground of wit and color that allows musicians to do pretty much whatever they want.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe Gallows\u201d provides a combination of electric robot voices and jazz, placing the listener smack in the middle of an old school arcade. It also gives off old school Brobecks vibes, which was a previous project Weekes and Seaman worked together on. \u201cSugar Pills\u201d and \u201cNew Invention\u201d use heavy-handed guitar solos, synthesizers and settle drum tracks to get you up and dancing. \u201cKiss Goodnight\u201d and \u201cNeed You Here\u201d are Bon Jovi and Tears for Fears style power ballads that show Weekes\u2019 sensitive side.
