Coming out of Liberty High School in Bakersfield, Calf. in 2016, the two-star quarterback received just a single FBS offer from Utah State, where he committed to play.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After redshirting his first year as an Aggie, Love was quick to show what he could do. He earned the starting job midway through 2017 and began to take the Mountain West by storm, throwing for 1,631 yards and eight touchdowns in his first season. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">By the end of his Aggie career in 2019, the quarterback had led USU to three straight bowl appearances while compiling a program record of <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">9,003 yards in total offense. He also finished with 60 touchdowns and 8,600 passing yards, both good for second best in program history.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These achievements, added with the natural ability he exhibited, helped Love be drafted No. 26 in the 2020 NFL draft to the Green Bay Packers.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fast forward to 2021, Love, who is considered by some <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/rewindthattape.com\/jordan-love-is-not-ready-for-the-nfl\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">unready<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to be an NFL quarterback, has a chance to surprise everyone by making a name for himself in his second year in the league. Much like he did his second year of college.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With nine-time pro bowl quarterback Aaron Rodgers<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/story\/_\/id\/31359453\/aaron-rodgers-want-return-green-bay-packers-sources-say\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">wanting out<\/span><\/a> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of Green Bay and skipping a<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nfl.com\/news\/aaron-rodgers-packers-mandatory-minicamp-doesnt-report-holdout\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">mandatory minicamp<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> two weeks ago, Love is being thrust into the spotlight well ahead of schedule,<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbssports.com\/nfl\/news\/packers-threw-everything-at-quarterback-jordan-love-as-he-acts-as-qb1-in-aaron-rodgers-absence\/\">\u00a0<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">taking reps as \u201cQB1\u201d<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> during Packer practices.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Barring Rodgers ending his holdout and returning to the team, all signs point to Love \u2013 who was a third string rookie active in zero games last season \u2013 becoming the starting quarterback of one of the most popular and successful franchises in the NFL this fall.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At the Packer\u2019s three day mini camp from June 8-10, it was clear Love was running the show.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/blog\/green-bay-packers\/post\/_\/id\/50908\/packers-dont-hold-back-any-of-offense-because-its-jordan-love-at-qb1\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rob Demovsky of ESPN<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, he took the majority of the quarterback reps, including 26 of the 31 available 11-on-11 snaps on the 10th. He finished the week completing 40 of 70 (57.1 percent) of pass attempts. Green Bay head coach Matt Lafleur told ESPN, \u201cwe installed our offense and kind of threw everything at him.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s an opportunity that frankly didn\u2019t seem realistic just months ago. Love was beat out by Tim Boyle for the backup job in Green Bay last season. He was <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/dairylandexpress.com\/2020\/12\/15\/packers-2020-draft-bust-way-early-tell\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">considered by many<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of being \u201ca bust\u201d of a draft pick.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Now he is being dubbed the man to carry the Packer quarterback legacy forward.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">“Obviously, we think the world of Jordan and where he’s going to grow and develop,” Green Bay GM Brian Gutekunst<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nfl.com\/news\/pressure-turned-up-on-packers-jordan-love-with-aaron-rodgers-offseason-absence\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">told reporters<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in April. \u201cWe have a lot of confidence in his talents, in his work ethic and where he’s going to go.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hall of Famer Brett Farve<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tmz.com\/2021\/06\/16\/brett-favre-jordan-love-prepare-packers-offense-aaron-rodgers\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">told TMZ<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the Packers need to prepare for Love to be the starter.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Why the Packers consider it imminent Love will be Rodgers’ replacement over anyone else \u2013 including newly signed Blake Bortles, who has seven years of NFL experience \u2013 isn’t entirely clear. Maybe his skill level has dramatically improved after one season in the NFL. Or maybe the franchise is putting trust in their first round draft pick based off of what he was able to do in college.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Either way it’s a golden opportunity for Love. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And one many wouldn\u2019t envy.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Last summer, Green Bay traded up to draft Love, gambling to get a QB for the future, rather than draft a wide receiver to help their immediate championship aspirations.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The move surprised and offended Rodgers, which sparked tensions between the seasoned veteran and the front office. Since the 2020 season ended, the situation escalated and Rodgers disassociated himself with the team.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With no Rodgers for the time being, and Love inadvertently considered a<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/packerswire.usatoday.com\/2021\/04\/29\/aaron-rodgers-drama-all-started-with-drafting-jordan-love\/\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">culprit of the whole situation<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a tremendous amount of pressure is being put on the Bakersfield native to deliver in what would be his first time playing in an NFL game, if he is the starting quarterback in the Packer\u2019s opener on Sept. 12 against the Saints.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But from all reports out of Green Bay, Love is embracing the challenge.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On May 27, running back Aaron Jones told<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/blog\/green-bay-packers\/post\/_\/id\/50880\/packers-jordan-love-shows-signs-of-progress-even-without-top-receivers\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> ESPN<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, \u201cYou can tell he\u2019s just a lot more comfortable out there, even from communicating in the huddle to the command of the huddle to just everything…He\u2019s going to continue to grow, and I\u2019m happy to be here working with him.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Packers leading receiver, four time pro-bowler Davante Adams, told journalists on June 7, \u201cHe\u2019s locked in and I can see it.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Davante Adams on Jordan Love: \u201cHe\u2019s locked in and I can see it.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Adams super supportive of Love. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Packers?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Packers<\/a><\/p>\n<p>— Lily Zhao (@LilySZhao) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/LilySZhao\/status\/1402340475638530059?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 8, 2021<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Love himself spoke to the media <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">on June 10. He said, \u201cMy mindset this whole offseason has been to get ready…I was drafted here to play QB, so I\u2019ll definitely be ready Week one.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Jordan Love Says He's Ready to Start Week 1 for the Packers [WHAT ABOUT RODGERS?] | CBS Sports HQ\" width=\"960\" height=\"540\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/LMp6mcJmSpw?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sure, he won\u2019t come in and perform as well as Rodgers. Gutekunst admitted to reporters that Love, \u201cHas a long way to go.\u201d But the belief is he is fully capable.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As things stand, there is a clear path for Love to be the starter this season. He has a chance to go from an unheralded backup to the leader of a championship contending team. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Or Rodgers ends his holdout and comes back to Green Bay this summer, terminating Love\u2019s aspirations of being a starter this season.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Either way, it\u2019s clear the Packer organization believes strongly in the Utah State product.
