Utah State’s Tyler Tew body slams his opponent during a bout at the Spectrum Tuesday. The Aggies were wrestling against Weber State. USU wrestlers that won the bouts were Tanner Purser, Tyler Price, Brandon Ripplinger, Tew and Mike Haslem.

The wrestling club is in its second year at USU. Haslem, the team president, said the team is working with other schools in the region to help them build thier programs so the club won’t have to travel so far to compete. Next year the club wants to join the National Club Wrestling Association, Haslem said. More than 100 schools compete in the NCWA.

Haslem said that many wrestlers stop after high school because they don’t know where to go.

“So many people want to wrestle, but don’t know where to go,” Haslem said. “This club is put together for people to come and continue wrestling.”

The club practices in the HPER Mondays at 8:30 p.m., Wednesday at 7:30p.m. and Saturdays at 9:30 a.m. For more information, contact Haslem at mikehas2004@yahoo.com.
