Youtube

Youtube creators you should check out this summer

YouTube is a platform that many turn to for DIY videos and short, funny clips to share with their friends, but several hundreds of people actually make a living producing videos for the platform! From ridiculous gaming playthroughs to spooky ghost hunting, here are a few of my favorite YouTube creators you should watch this summer:

Disclaimer: Several of these videos do contain explicit language.

1. The Irish Gang: Jacksepticeye, RT Game and CallMeKevin

This group of witty Irish lads are known for their gaming playthroughs and short, comedic videos with quick quips, improvised humor and hilarious antics. A lot of people ask me why I would rather watch gaming playthroughs rather than buy the game, but the truth is a lot of these games are games I either can’t afford to buy, don’t have the platform for, or simply do not care enough to purchase. Sean, Daniel and Kevin respectively are not only entertaining but down to earth guys who don’t mind sharing their thoughts and feelings with their viewers. Sean is very open about his journey with mental health while Daniel and Kevin tend to act wild and crazy in their videos but are always so kind and caring when it comes to interacting with fans. All three also stream on Twitch.

2. Unnus Annus, Ethan Nestor and Mark Fishbach

Mark Fishbach, also known as Markiplier, started this channel with his good friend Ethan Nestor (Crankgameplays) as a way to remember that nothing lasts forever. The channel will only be around for one year and has already reached its half-life, so if it sounds interesting, you better get watching! The videos range from getting acupuncture and getting pepper-sprayed to buying a coffin and trying to see how long they can hold their breath underwater. The videos are always different and always crazy. COVID-19 might have put a dent in their plans, but it didn’t stop the entertaining videos from coming.

3. The Philip DeFranco Show, Philip DeFranco

Philip DeFranco hosts a daily news show that covers not only world topics but pop culture topics as well. DeFranco is very interactive with his fanbase and will cover stories that are sent to him via Twitter or his comments. He is an unbiased, reliable source for news and although he does share his opinion, he asks the fans to share their opinions as well. I’ve never seen a comment section with such civilized conversations and debates. He also has a section called “Today in Awesome” in which he shares his favorite things for the day or things that just generally made him happy. If you are looking for an entertaining yet informative news source, look no further!

4. Buzzfeed Unsolved, Ryan Bergara and Shane Madej

I know the company “Buzzfeed” tends to turn people off, but trust me on this. Ryan Bergara, a believer in the supernatural and spirits from the great beyond, pairs with his partner and best friend Shane Madej, a general cynical and pessimistic toward the supernatural for entertaining and real-life stories about the undead. The channel is separate from Buzzfeed and switches each season between real crime and supernatural. They have covered famous cases such as the assassination of John F. Kennedy to obscure cases like “The Demonic Curse of Annabelle the Doll.” You know, the one they made the movie about? If you are even slightly interested in crime, conspiracy theories or ghost hunting, I’d recommend checking the Ghoul Boys out.

5. The Ex-Viners: Kurtis Conner, Danny Gonzales, Drew Gooden and Cody Ko

Ah, the days of Vine, when life was simple and Tik Tok ceased to exist. While not every ex-viner turned YouTuber has been great for the internet (think Jake and Logan Paul), some have done pretty well for themselves. Remember the “Road work ahead? Uh yeah. I sure hope it does” vine? That was Drew Gooden. Remember the Jurassic Park “What are those?” vine? Danny Gonzales. Kurtis Conner and Cody Ko certainly had popular vines of their own, but all of these men have excelled on YouTube with their commentary videos. Some, like Gonzales and Ko, even make their own music and have come out with their own EPs! If you like listening to people give their opinions on silly or absurd topics, these are your guys.

6. Gus Johnson and Eddy Burback

If you are looking for short, witty skits about topical events, look no further. Gus Johnson and Eddy Burback have the ability to make me shake with laughter with a clip that’s no longer than twelve seconds long. Maybe it is a Gen Z thing, but the more random and more sudden something is, the funnier I think it is. The two are roommates who also hold a podcast together.

7. Good Mythical Morning, Rhett McLaughlin and Link O’Neil

Imagine two dads decided to hold a talk show together in which they dared themselves to try nasty foods or paint themselves with marshmallow fluff simply because no one else would do it. Welcome to Good Mythical Morning, a show that has been running daily for over 10 years. Rhett McLaughlin and Link O’Neil come from North Carolina and use their lovable, southern sense of humor to give their show a twist. Have you ever wanted to try the chicken nuggets from every single fast food restaurant and rate them? How about pick which salt and vinegar snack taste the most like salt and vinegar? Have you ever imagined what it might be like to sit inside of a human-sized bowl of cereal? If you can picture it, I assure you that McLaughlin and O’Neil have done it.
